This is a James Swann (American 1905-1985) 'Winter' 1924 Framed Etching Size: 7 1/4" w x 9 1/2" h JAMES SWANN, award-winning Chicago artist, was noted for his etchings of the city. His 1940 drypoint, ``Night in Chicago,`` an etching of Lake Shore Drive and Michigan Avenue on a stormy night, won the top prize of the Chicago Society of Etchers. His etchings of the Southwest and of Japan also won him prizes and helped him gain an international reputation. Mr. Swann`s work is represented in such museums as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Smithsonian Institution. His awards included a bronze medal from the French government for his pencil drawing in the Paris Exposition, 1937; the Habersham prize, 1939, by the Southern Print Makers; and the 1953 Henry B. Shope Prize given in New York by the Society of American Etchers.
