James VanDerZee, black girl, Casa Grande, AZ,'69, 4x6" Description: PHOTOGRAPHY HOMAGE James VanDerZee is the only African-American among the 20 honoredby the US Postal Service, in 1991, in their "Masters of American Photography" series of issued stamps. His Harlem based studio was a beacon for "The Harlem Renaissance" between the two World Wars. I was in Casa Grande, Arizona in 1969, covering their annual O'odham Tash celebration, when this black girl streaked by me. She reminded me of an African gazelle being chased by a predator. I just had to take her picture. She ran all over the park with me in pursuit. She rested for perhaps 10 seconds when I took one frame of her with my telephoto lens. @ 2009 David Lee Guss Black girl, O'odham Tash, Casa Grande, AZ, 1969-2008 Shipping : Payment :
