For sale is an interesting book of philosophical "thoughts" compiled by Katherine Field.Jane Addams, co-founder of Hull House and the first American woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize (1931)signed one page. There are also three hand-written poems by Ella Young . I'm not sure if she is the famous Irishpoet (1867-1956) since I couldn't find examples of her signature. There is another signature by "Alexander Sh..."at the front of the book but it's unreadable.This was apparently self-published since none is listed. It was an expensive publication. ( I searched to see ifField was related to Marshall Field but could find no connection). There are 112 unpaginated sheets of thick Fabrianolaid paper with deckle edges. The 17 brief "Thoughts" are separated by two blank pages, possibly to allow personaladditions like the poems. It is 6 5/8" x 9 1/4" x 5/8" and weighs one pound. The cover has stains, the spine is missing,and there is some very light foxing but no musty odor.
