Relist item Beautiful Antique and very rare Uchishiki, Japanese Traditional Cloth for Buddhist Altar, decorated with the Crest of the Shogun Takeda Shingen by kinkoma embroidery The Uchishiki is a triangular piece of cloth, which hangs over the front of the Maejoku (altar table). The literal translation "strike (uchi) spread out (shiki)" refers to the origin of the cloth which was "spread out" for Shakyamuni Buddha, wupon the disciples bowed in reverence "striking" their foreheads to the ground. The cloth later came to decorate the altar tables of temples on special occasions of hearing the Buddha's teaching. This exquisite silk Uchishiki is considered from Showa era or earlier. The material is made of very fine patterned woven raw silk and lined with fine cotton. In the centre part, it has bold embroidery of crest of the Shogun Takeda Shingen. The reverse side shows hand-written calligraphy (pic) Condition: old, due to its age and use some areas have unavoidable stains and spots. However regarding its age it is as a whole in very good condition and it is a highly collectible item. Unfortunately, due to private reasons I have to give up a part of my samurai-relation collected items. I have only one request concerning this item: the winner of this auction should handle this uchishiki with care by reason of: it is genuine
