DETAILS OF ITEM

This pieces measures 10.25" tall and 8" long. This is a wooden folk toy horse called a Hachiman horse from Hachinohe in Aomori prefecture of Japan but carrying a pair of moneyboxes on its back that makes it a fairly unusual style along with its good size.

Since the old days, Horse breeding had been a very important industry and the major source of income for Nanbu (Feudal name of Aomori) region since Edo (1603-1867) period. The horse market was held during Kushihiki Hachiman shrine festival during the Lunar calendar between August 14th and 15th. It was also customary for breeders to purchase a wooden horse toy like this particular piece as a charm to pray for the health of their horse that was just sold at the market. The dotted decoration on the piece suggests the stylized rivets of armor in turn they give an impression of roughness and strength the way Nanbu horses were well known despite the flower patterns. The angular masculine appearance befitting the image of a war horse carrying a heavy load of gold coins in the moneyboxes bring a sense of security and its capability to bring good luck and prosperity. The age of this piece is from the 1960's and it is in excellent condition.

Buyer pays actual shipping. Your item will be shipped domestically using either USPS priority mail, USPS first class mail or UPS ground service. The one limitation with UPS is that they only ship to a physical address not to a US Postal PO Box address. On rare occasions we would use Fedex ground or a Blanket Wrap service for very large furniture pieces.

We will insure your packages ONLY AS AN OPTION ON REQUEST for the exact additional cost of insurance. In addition to the actual USPS or UPS shipping cost, we charge a handling fee of $2.00 for domestic shipping and $3.00 for international shipping to cover packaging costs and in the case of international shipping, the additional paperwork and customs forms needed. Though we are not out to make a profit on our shipping, we would like to cover our packaging materials and transportation costs to the post office.
