For your consideration is this Kutani biscuit barrel/utility jar covered with heavy moriage & lots of gold. It is marked on the bottom in red Japanese characters indicating the maker & origin. On the bottom is also stamped in red, "HANDPAINTED MADE IN JAPAN." The piece was made between 1920 & 1940 & is in superior condition. Over the traditional flat "Kutani red" paint are myriad designs using gold & hand applied enamels in the traditional moriage colors used in Kutani pottery. Each side of the barrel has its own design. I have provided closeup detail photos of the stylized butterfly & bird which are on front & back of the barrel. I hope my photos can convey just how time & labor intensive the meticulous task of handpainting this piece was. The barrel itself stands 5" high; with the handle up, 9 1/2." The diameter of the top opening is 5." The reed handle is still tight w/no breaks & is firmly in place. The only wear to the gold is on the side handle knob in photo #3 at 5 o'clock position; at 9 o'clock position on the other handle knob in photo #4. The top of the lid shows the only significant rubbing or wear to the gold. The inside is shiny, clean & unstained. T is an old chip on the inner rim of the lid which you can see in photo #7; it is not a distraction. The barrel & lid together weigh 1 lb. 13 oz.Shipping will be $10.25; insurance is optional. I prefer payment by money order or ck.; I accept PayPal & can combine shipments in order to save you money.HAVE A GREAT E-WEEK & THANKS FOR VISITING!! Sellers: Get your own map of past buyers. Fast.
