Japan Shakudo Art Nouveau Fan Brooch Snake Flowers c1910 Rare Antique Asian Description A WONDERFUL AND RARE ORIGINAL JAPANESE SHAKUDO ART NOUVEAU FAN BROOCH WITH APPLIQUES OF RICHLY DETAILED FLOWERS AND A SNAKE DATING TO C1910 - A VERY WONDERFUL PIECE! This is just a wonderful Art Nouveau, Aesthetic period piece of jewelry! It is an incredibly detailed brooch which is adorned with incredible images from nature. These flowers and the beautiful snake are raised applied images which give the piece a stunning 3 dimensional effect. I believe this is shakudo - or the mixed metal technique from Japan, although it may be brass or some other metal. The workmanship is of the highest quality! And the images from nature the epitome of the Japanese Art Nouveau. The French also did a great deal of Asian inspired art nouveau - so this could be French as well. This brooch is a very rare Art Nouveau piece with absolutely stunning period design - I just love it!!!!!! I believe that it dates to c1900-1920. The brooch is in excellent condition. One of the fan fronds has a bit of a bend to it. It is 2 3/8 inches (60 mm) long and 1 3/8 inches (35 mm) wide.
