FLASH NEWS: The Alloy we believe is called SZU in Japan. mixture of silver gold copper and tin we were told but do not know much else. Bells, sake sets, all kinds of things made because it is soft and easy to carve, like copper, but can be a BELL! (Suzu) even!
JAPANESE VINTAGE FABULOUSLY CARVED ALLOY VASE, NEAR MINT CONDITION. This vase has a coating and a cast type finish surface inside and you can see w water 'Scales' have built up from use, but we can not call it Antique at all. The carvings are fabulous and so fine I can not get a good photo of them. You need to HOLD it and turn it in the light. Especially the bird's feathers! When holding it you will find it is light and not the same weight as a Bronze Vase I have sold. It is an Alloy of some kind and t is a word for it in Japan, but I can not find it. I am heading for the Countryside fair next week and if see any of this alloy, I will ask what they call it, etc. It is not aluminum as that material will get dull unless it is anodized and this is too shiny along the rim to be that. It may have aluminum in the alloy, but not sure. I have seen sake sets and small cups of this material before in Japan that look the same. The most important thing is the CARVINGS!! It is signed by a famous artist I was told, named HOZAN. I have heard this name in pottery making, but I tink t might be different Hozan Artists. Whatever. It is right at 8 /2 inches tall and other than that, the photos tell the story on this beauty. Too bad t was no box, but not to worry, we will pack nicely. Thank You All and please check what all else I can discover in Japan.
