Another of my many Japanese Antique dealer auction acquisitions: This late Meiji era (c.1910) Japanese ozen is a traditional Japanese tea ceremony tray used for special occasions. It is made of age cured cryptomeria wood and covered with over 20 layers of black lacquer. It was used in its day to serve tea, sake, or small cakes used in tea ceremony. It has subtle 3/4" (2 cm) high hand crafted feet to raise it slightly above the Japanese tatami floor. It is very solid and would make an elegant service tray for hors d'oeuvres, tea, sake or wine. Similar trays are still made in Japan today at a cost of over $300 per tray but lack much of the character of this well crafted Meiji Era tray. This one is over 100 years old guaranteed having been in storage for over a century and used only for special occasions. It is overall in very fine condition and exhibits only the slightest signs of use or wear. Measures 14" square by 2" high (36 x 5 cm). A great size for serving wine or small savory deserts. You'll love it, I guarantee it.........If you purchase this item and are not completely delighted with it, you may return it for a no questions asked refund within 14 days of receipt.
