These are among the last of the color prints from this collection, so t will be only a few more auctions of these color prints. This is an authentic and very rare antique Japanese war print by Meiji Period (1868-1912) artist, Matsutani, who designed his prints directly from sketches made of real life scenes on his assignments at the front lines of the Sino Japanese War (1894-1895). It was published by Toyodo Publishing on October 28, 1895. This lovely work of art is a beautiful and fastidious depiction of the Mountain Passage of Yamane's Troops. The ability to find and create art amid the terrible horrors of war, and the meticulous attention to detail combine to make this a wonderful piece of Japanese art and history. This print was archived by the original publisher in Japan. It has been very well conserved for many years, and the condition is Like New!
