A special bronze vase from the mid Meiji Era (1880) used for ikebana flower arranging and known as an Usubata . It has a tipod footing making it very stable and a removable top section in which the arrangement was crated and then set into the base vase. This bronze has detailed high relief in the form of Japanese kanji characters and fret work throughout the mid section and three legs. The two side handles also desplay relief work. This vase has been well used and well loved and has a patina that only 100+ years of generations of affection could apply. In surprisingly fine condition for its age. It does have some areas of patina thiner than others as well as a repair to inner top section (see picture 10). Use it for another generation and hand it down to the next. Enjoy the enlarged pictures and feel free to ask questions. Stands 10 1/2" high by 11 1/2" across.(27 by 29 cm ) It is a thick casting weighing over 7 pounds. (aprox 3 kg) You'll love it...........I guarantee it!
