This auction is for an absolutely gorgeous Japanese wood sosaku creative kokeshi doll. This kokeshi is from the late 1970's, and is in very good vintage condition. She measures 8.5" tall and 8.5" in circumference around her head. She was made by one of the most famous creative kokeshi doll makers in Japan - Miyashita Hajime. He has won many of the highest awards in Japan for his kokeshi doll creations, including one for this doll. She's wearing a beautiful shiny black kimono that's decorated with red and white plum blossom flowers. Much of the design, including the flowers, was first carved into the wood and then painted. She's also wearing an attractive red and white hair adornment in her top knot. She has such a lovely and somewhat shy face with barely pink cheeks, heart-shaped lips, and long eyelashes on closed eyes, framed by her long, black hair. There's a round gold, black and red sticker on the bottom with several Japanese characters. This kokeshi doll is in good vintage condition - hard to find many flaws - and would make a great addition to your growing collection. White areas are camera glare.
