This gorgeous Japanese wood sosaku creative kokeshi doll is from the late 1970's, and is in excellent vintage condition. She's heavy and measures 7.5" tall and 10.25" in circumference around her head. She was made by a highly respected creative kokeshi doll maker in Japan - Miyashita Hajime. He has won numerous awards in Japan for his kokeshi doll designs, including one for this doll. Her black kimono is decorated with large red and beige-colored plum blossom flowers which really stand out against the black color. Much of the design on the kimono was burned into the wood for extra texture and depth. She's also wearing a pretty dark green obi with a yellow flower petal pattern, and a pink and white bow above the obi. She has such a beautiful and somewhat shy face with long eyelashes on closed eyes, framed by her traditional hair style with a large top knot. Very pretty kokeshi doll. This kokeshi doll is in excellent vintage condition - hard to find many flaws - and she would make a great addition to your growing collection. White areas are camera glare. If you are looking for perfection, please do not bid on the older dolls. And please note the size of the doll as the pictures may make it look larger than it actually is.
