Here's my take on buying guitars - I like to know what I'm buying, I don't like nasty surprises. So many sellers seem to think an out of focus photo taken with a phone and a vague description you could fit on the back of a postage stamp is sufficient to let prospective buyers know what they're getting.... Well, I don't :) This is a cracking Japanese Fender Strat in what I believe is Old Lake Placid Blue, though in certain light it does look quite greeny blue - it's a real chameleon colour wise, but very beautiful. Lets get some minor negs out the way: there are light indentations on the guitar and a slightly larger one (about 10mm) on the rear. None of these are dings that go through to the wood, just very light, very small indents. There is a minor crack in the lacquer on the inside of the upper horns where it joins the neck, again only a surface crack. The base of the guitar has a few indentations (shown in picture) which I can't figure out how they were made, maybe when it was made?? Again, no splitting. There are the odd little marks to the rear of the neck: minor tiny dings and what looks like marks caused by a too tight capo!! One minor scuff on the top at the rear. I've photographed what I am able to. But, in reality, nothing you wouldn't expect from a 20 year old guitar that's been played. It is in fact in superb condition for a guitar of that age. The paint is bright and clean and the neck is straight and true. Bar a few minor scratches the chrome is gleaming throughout. Lets move on to the neck - WOW - what a player, the fretboard is a nice dark rosewood which looks beautiful now I've cleaned it with lemon oil, the frets themselves are nice and shiny. And she plays excellently, truly like "butter". The back of the neck is gloss, but after 20 years the shine has started to fade, and that "stickyness" has gone, which in my mind makes it perfect. She stays in tune nicely, and the intonation is spot on. Has a new set of 9's on her. Truly a beautiful guitar, much nicer than the Mexis, and plays as well as an American in my opinion. New, these will put you back about £800 (if you can find one) and they won't have any of the mojo that this lovely lady possesses. I'm convinced you won't be disappointed The official model number of this guitar is. It was manufactured in 1994 in the Fender Fujigen plant in Japan. It is a 1962 reissue with the following features. 11 screw laminated 3-ply white/black/white scratch plate. Maple neck (no skunk stripe) with 21 fret rosewood fingerboard. Vintage frets on a 7.5 radius neck 3 x Fender® Japan Single Coil pickups Truss rod adjuster at body end of neck Two string guides. Vintage Kluson style tuners.
