From an estate of a retired Air Force officer. The collector was stationed in the East during the fifties. This Fukurokuju figure was probably made in Japan in the early 1900's. He stands 19 inches tall and is quite impressive. Fukurokuju (from Japanese fuku, " happiness"; roku, " Wealth"' and ju "Longevity") is one of the Seven Lucky Gods in Japanese mythology. This representation of the God is less caractured than most. Head crown is much less exaggerated as is his ear lobe length. Condition is excellent with no missing decorations, cracks, or repairs. It is 'as found' state, needs cleaning. Ships anywhere in the lower 48 via insured FedEx for $45. Stunning detail! Two close up pics of marking on bottom. Note impressions left from piece being on a textured surface (canvas) prior to firing. These pics may or may not be up-side down. Solid bottom with glue residue. This piece has not been cleaned. This felt cloth was glued to bottom. It was removed to find markings. Shows strong evidence of being very old. Flesh and hairs have a matte finish. Robe and staff have a glossy glaze with applied slip decoration.
