Japanese 18" Kutani Charger, decorated with rust-red, green, aubergine, yellow, black and much gold. It has the design of a large banner with a red background top, with gold and white flowers. Under this are alternate stripes of green with star shaped flowers and aubergine with yellow and white clouds. Above the banner is a gilt railing and two black, red, white stylized bird flags, a flag with ying-yang design in the center, surrounded by red fire and the rising sun in gold and red. There is another red flag with gold clouds. There is some loss to the enamels on the two trees, but the majority is intact. The rim has loss to the gold trim, and there are some imperfections due to old sand particles imbedded during the firing process. The back of the charger also has some imperfections and one visible spur mark. There is an old paper attached to the back. Overall, the charger looks great and is in excellent condition for its age.
