For auction is the late war Nagoya Arsenal NCO Variation #1, MATCHING serial numbers 205930, with the ULTRA RARE black painted scabbard pictured on page 202 of my book Swords of Imperial Japan 1868-1945 Cyclopedia Edition . All other Variation #1s known to me had OD painted scabbards. Fuchi stampings are shown in the inset to Plate 16-2 on page 202. Fuchi stampings on iron are always difficult to read, but they are the Seki Token Kabushiki-Kaisha (Seki Swords Company, Ltd.) logo, an indistinct arsenal inspection mark that may be a partial Army Seki Inspection Unit seki mark, and the Nagoya Arsenal sea creatures arsenal identification stamp. The Army Seki Inspection Unit mark also appears on the blade.
Because of the difficulty of stamping on iron, most iron fuchi swords WERE NOT stamped. The stampings are a RARE find! Condition: EXCELLENT PLUS UNISSUED showing NUMEROUS shelf wear CHIPS to the brittle old last-ditch black lacquer scabbard paint and minor drying to the grip wood. Not to overstate the case, but I challenge you to EVER find a nicer, better documented, more fully marked, more historic, Nagoya Variation #1. I would NEVER sell this sword if I didn’t “need” a Japanese Type 98 Aircraft MG. GUARANTEED TO BE AN ORIGINAL, unrestored, NOT touched up, and totally unmolested NO EXCUSES sword. NOT a replica, post-war item, or fake. ****** This is the actual sword pictured in Plate 16-2 of my book Swords of Imperial Japan 1868-1945 Cyclopedia Edition .****** Please read the history of the late-war army NCO swords, Variations #1, #2, #3, and #4. in Chapter 16. I am Jim Dawson. I am the author of Swords of Imperial Japan 1868-1945 Cyclopedia Edition, and I guarantee this item to be just what the ad says it is and the condition exactly as described . Please . Please see the ad for my book, Swords of Imperial Japan 1868-1945 Cyclopedia Edition by Jim Dawson and the ad for the companion book, Bayonets of Japan by my good friend Raymond LaBar.
