is what I am told is a Japanese Officers Sword. I know nothing of swords and am selling this for a friend who actually found this in a old barn. First off it is 34" long total, a blade length of 24" and handle of 10". The scabbard is 27" long. I removed the bamboo pin from the handle and found no markings on the tang. All the other parts on the hand guard have the number 109 or 601 take your pick, Also all metal parts appear to be brass. The handle is cloth wrapped braided? over what appears to be ivory bumps.On the edge of the handle under the wrap is very thin sheet of wood I guess to protect the wrap. T is a flower which appears to be brass on one side of the handle, (see pics) and a spot w one was on the other side. T is a button by the hand guard to release the blade from the scabbard. Just in front of the hand guard is a silver piece app.1" long on the blade. The blade is very clean and very sharp, no rust or pits or chips. The scabbard is steel as it is magnetic. It is dent free and has a very nice patena.T is a braided cord on the metal loop, which for what reason I do not know. This sword has not been cleaned except to be wiped off to remove some barn residue! If you have any questions please ask before you bid. All sales on this are final. I have had many questions about the 109 and how many pieces had the 109 on them. Well t are 10 pieces on the hand guard that have it. Look at the added pics. Thank you. And no the toes don't come with it! I have added a pic of the temper line. This is representative of the rest of the blade with the exception of 1" on the tip which dosen't look like it has a temper line. I am learning alot from you sword collectors. I have tried to represent this as good as I can. Thank you guys and gals for all the info.
