This auction is for a pretty Japanese red lacquer sake cup with the silver logo of the Teikoku Zaiko Gunjin Kai (Imperial Time Expired Soldiers League) in the center of the bowl. The reverse side of the cup has a stamp attached with kanji on it that reads "Passed 2nd Class Japan Lacquer Association No. 25". This sticker is some type of approval stamp from a lacquer manufacturers association. T is also silver kanji in the center of the base that reads "Teikoku Zaiko Gunjin Kai". The cup measures measures 3 1/2" across x 1 1/4" high. T are no chips, cracks, or repairs on this very pretty piece of Japanese military history. The cup is in EXCELLENT condition. Also included in the auction is a large size Teikoku Zaiko Gunjin Kai Membership Badge. This badge has the double sprung fitting on the back and is much scarcer than the straight pin type. The badge measures 1 1/8" x 1 3/4" and comes in its original box which is extremely rare. The first 2 rows of horizontal kanji on the lid of the box read "Trademark Teikoku Zaiko Gunjin Kai Headquarters". The large row of vertical kanji in the center reads "Badge" while the 2 vertical rows on either side of "Badge" read "Teikoku Zaiko Gunjin Kai". The 3 horizontal rows near the bottom of the lid read "Special License", "Tokyo", "Tazaki Inohichi". The box measures 1 5/8" x 2 1/4" x 1/4". Both the badge and the box are in EXCELLENT condition. T is a picture of a similar sake cup on page 24 of the book titled In the Name of a Living God by Paul L. Murphy & Steven L. Ackley. T is also a picture of the large membership badge and the double sprung type fitting on page 4 of this same book.I apologize for the quality of the photograph but I have a difficult time taking photographs of lacquer sake cups because of the flashback.
