This is a spectacular older Japanese Satsuma vase that stands 18 7/8" tall and the circumference at it widest measures 26 ½" measured just below the handles. I didn't list this Japanese Satsuma vase along with the other vase I have listed, as t are slight differences between the two. Most of all they were purchased separately. Each Japanese Satsuma vase is hand painted and they can vary, however, I just feel that these are two different ceramic vases with the same motif. The Japanese artist chose fabulous Moriage hand painting to just make this ceramic Satsuma vase alive. It looks to me like t is a bit of a disagreement between these two, possibly a Japanese court noble in the background and a Japanese warrior. The back of this impressive Japanese Satsuma vase has been hand painted in the lovely floral motif that adds a subtle calm to the highly detailed and combative front scene. Off course you have the Japanese patterns of good things to come as they surround the scenes, used as the boarders on the neck and on the base. The handles are made to reflect a Foo animal and then you have the "O" rings and then a fan like shape going down each side of the vase. You will find that w the fan is wrapped around one of the rings t is a ¼" x 3/16" in the top of the ceramic. The inside base rim is a bit rough. Please see my pictures. T very read more
