This is a beautiful four panel coromandel Chinese lacquer screen. It is c. 1930's, pre-war, probably Cantonese. It was purchased in Hong Kong in 1986 at an antique shop. Each panel is 6' high x 4' wide. Hooks hold each screen together, some hooks are missing, they were missing when this was purchased, and some have wear, i.e. rust. Each panel is standing on brass "feet" that have patainaed with age. The panels are very detailed- I can see lines in the women's hair and when I run my hands over it, t are raised areas. I will describe each panel as best as I can from left to right. Please note that by 'wear' I mean, areas w some of the lacquer has been chipped/knicked and t are areas of minor scratching/light abrasions. The panels do need a thorough cleaning as they are quite dusty. I do not want to do this and risk ruining anything. I know that you're not supposed to re-finish/re-store antiques unless you know what you're doing... 1) Far left- T is some rear at the top right side and top right corner. 2) Next panel- W the woman as at the top holding the horse, t is some wear at the top left corner, and up the left side. The bottom corner edge @ left and wear at the bottom right edge. 3) Third panel, the one with the woman doing laundry (?)- T is a knick at the top right corner edge, wear at the bottom left corner edge, edges worn--and read more
