The title of this Kokeshi Doll is ‘Samui Asa’ that means cold morning in English. As this title, this doll is wearing coat. This Kokeshi doll is very fine work because it is difficult to make round shape like his foot. This is the same model as the doll that was bought by the emperor of Japan. Material / Origin Wood / Japan Condition New Size Height: Approx 20.0cm ( 7.9inch) / Weight: Approx 810g ( 28.6oz) Artist Watanabe Masao About the Artist Watanabe Masao was born in 1917 in Fukushima. Sadly he passed away in 2007. This is a huge loss of Sousaku Kokeshi world. His work is very valuable nowadays not only because he passed away. He won major 8 prizes include the award from Prime minister twice (’63, ’71). Masao’s works is not only the doll but also works of art. Some of his models were exhibited in the exhibition that was hold by the small and medium enterprises agency in United States before.
