This is a Japanese kikuchi-yari in makura-yari (sleeping spear) mountings. The blade is unsigned, kanmuri-otoshi kikuchi-yari shape with sanskrit engravings, muromachi period ca. 1550 era made blade. Kikuchi-yari was made in Kikuchi, Higo province (Kumamoto prefecture) in muromachi period. The blade is in old full polish, no stain, no rust and in good condition. There is no nick, no bend, no opening, no crack temper and cutting edge is very sharp. The temper line is wavy notareba with nie (crystal) active temper throughout the blade and has healthy turn-back temper at the point. The forging grain is itame-hada and no forging flawsat all. It is mounted in urushi lacquered inrokizami finish wood pole, no crack, dent and in good condition. The scabbard is black lacuered wood scabbard, no dent, no crack also in good condition. It measures 5+5/8" cutting edge, 5/8" width, 8mm thickness at the notch, 37" pole and 45" in mountings. Shipping is $20 priority in U.S. Payment due within 3 days auction end.
