This is a Japanese naginata in mountings. The blade is signed "Bungo koku ju Saneyuki 豊後国住真行" (signature is worn out from the age and hard to catch in photos), naginata shape, Edo period ca. 1673 era made blade. The blade is in old full polish, no stain, no rust and in good condition. There is no nick, no bend, no crack temper and cutting edge is very sharp. The temper line is wavy gunome with nioi (crystal) active temper throughout the blade and has healthy temper at the point. The forging grain is itame-hada and shows minor opening flaws on surface (shows in #11,12 photos). It is mounted in lacquered with sea shell finish hard wood pole with iron ishitsuki on end of the pole and in good condition. The scabbard is old urushi lacquered wood scabbard, no dent, no crack, no lacquer loss and in good condition. It measures 14+1/2" cutting edge, 1" width, 5mm thickness at the notch, 47" pole and 60" in mountings. Shipping is $25 priority in U.S. Payment due within 3 days auction end.
