Japanese O-tanto or very short wakizashi project blade. I think this mei is a date but I can not find my records of the translation anyw as that was about 5 years ago; but I am rather sure it is a date... It has had one side saturated with lemon juice and then neutralized; it does show what looks like to be a weak notare-midare style hamon with itame hada. You can see in the photo the kissaki shows the forgeing pattern. It has no real flaws other than it is old and tired; some loose grain and t but nothing bad. It came with a gold wash habaki and I made a very crude shira-saya to protect it until I got around to polishing it; well that was 5 years ago and it still has not been polished so it is time to move it on to someone that will. I am going through all my inventory and if I have not touched it in 3 years I am moving it on as I have to get more organized. The nagasa is 12 1/2" long and the nakago is 3 1/4" long not cut down. The finish on the blade will NOT need coarse foundation stones; koma-nagura/5000+ grit and then finger stones should bring out what action that is t This is a project blade and I think I gave 150 to 200 for it back then so I am starting out the bid below what I have in it and hopefully the winner will restore this blade. I would guess it was made somew in the late 1600's as it is a thin style blade not shinto or shin-shinto for sure. Maybe one of you guys out t can tell what the mei reads I worked on it a little last night but do not feel comfortable with my translation as this point. Well good luck to anyone that may win the bid. USA bidders and buyers only please; no offense intended what-so-ever... You must be 18 years old or older to bid or buy this item. Thank you for looking.
