I picked up this thick Early Showa vintage (c.1940) goban (go board ) at a dealer only auction in Japan last year. I have been buying fine go boards at auction in Japan for over 35 years now and I find this board very attractive due to its warm aged patina, its well played top grid, as well as its thick 4 1/4" (11 cm) thick slab center grain of what I am told is solid Kaya wood. Four nicely carved 4 3/4 " wooden legs (11.5 cm) for a total height of 9 " (23 cm). It stands flat on the floor and has a level playing surface. Whether by design , there is a very small rise (less than 1/4") in the middle of this board seen in pictures 6, 8 & 9. The top grid has thinned in the middle from loving use but is still visible and very playable. Measures 17 1/2" by 16 1/2 " top (44.5 x 42 cm) stands 9" high overall (23 cm). It also weighs read more
