I picked up this thick Showa vintage (c. 1930's) goban (go board) at a dealer only auction in Japan last year. I have been buying fine go boards at auction in Japan for over 35 years now and I find this board an exceptional bargain due to its warm aged patina and the character of its well played top grid. It has been well played yet well loved and remains in fine condition with a rich warm aged patina . It has a 5" (12.7 cm) solid top slab of what I am told is age dried kaya wood. Four nicely carved 5" wooden legs (12.8 cm) for a total height of 10" (25.5 cm). There are some minor side checks that have long ago stabilized in this solid piece of kaya wood. This board is overall in very fine conditon and is sure to stand the test of time for another century. It stands flat on the floor and has a level playing surface. Measures 17 1/2" by 16 " top (44.8 x 41 cm) stands 10" high overall (25.5 cm). It also weighs in at a hefty 23 1/2 pounds. Enjoy the enlarged pictures. Please note: the go ishi (stones and bowls) seen in the first pictures are not included but will be sold in another listing on sailerking.
