Tengu ( 天狗, "heavenly dog" , Tengu ?) are a class of supernatural creatures found in the folklore of Japan. They are one of the best known (monster-spirits) and are popular subjects in Japanese art,theater and literature.

Although they take their name from a dog-like Chinese demon , the tengu were anciently considered to resemble a bird of prey and are traditionally depicted as creatures blending human and avian characteristics. While tengu were originally pictured with a bird's bill, this feature has so often been humanized into an unnaturally-long nose that today such a proboscis is, in the popular imagination, almost the defining characteristic of this spirit.

The tengu were long held by Buddhism to be evil and disruptive demons and harbinger of war, but their image gradually softened into one of protective (if still frightening) spirits of the mountains and forests.

This mask is handcraftet from wood and laquered.The condition is very good.The age we don't know,but looks quite new to us.
