A very rare mask with a famous and historic maker

Up for auction is this is a very nice authentic Ju-roku Noh Theatre mask which represents a young warrior. Male character noh theatre masks are not at all easy to find and are rarely ever offered on Ebay. When they are available, they command very high prices. This is especially true of Juroku who is rare even among other male character noh theatre masks. This mask was made with great skill by the famous Yoshitoku Doll Company located in Tokyo , Japan (Established in 1711). I am fairly certain that it is made of a light weight wood, but it is hard to be totally sure due to the black lacquer finish on the back of the mask. That being said, the mask is very lightweight, and it definitely has the look and feel of wood. The mask comes with its own original wooden storage box that is signed with a makers mark, and if you look closely at the last photo you can see it, in addition to the spot w the old Yoshitoku Doll Company label was before it lost its adhesive qualities and fell off. The mask is in excellent condition. It does have a slight yellow patina to it as a result of its age. I have taken multiple photos in different lighting. I would estimate this mask to be from the mid Showa-Period (circa 1950).
