This is a Japanese WWll Naval officer`s sword in kaiguntokaiguntokaigunto mountings. The blade is signed "Bishu Asai ju Kanemitsu saku, kao 尾州浅井住兼光作", "Hachiman Daibosatsu 八幡大菩薩", shinogi-zukuri shape, WWll time ca. 1940 era made blade. Kanemitsu's real name is Goto Matsuzo, was born in 1887 in Gifu prefecture, made swords as a Gendai smith during WWll time and after the war. The blade is traditional hand forged, in original polish, shows aged light staines on surface but no rust and in good condition. The temper line is wavy notare temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep o-maru temper at the point. The forging grain is tight itame-hada and no forging flaws at all. There is no bend, no nicks, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. The blade is mounted in Naval kaigunto mountings, scabbard is large ray-skin covered wood scabbard no lacquer loss, no dent, no bend and in excellent condition. The handle is tight fit, tsuka-ito wrapping is no loose, no cut also in good condition. The metal fittings are all original, shows aged patina. It came with brown naval sword tassel, no cut, no fade also in good condition. The blade measures 26+3/4" tip to the guard, 25+5/8" cutting edge, 1+3/16" width, 7mm thickness at the notch and 39+1/4" in mountings.
