This auction is for a nice Japanese WWII era military sake cup made by Kutani. The bowl of the cup is done in a gold wash which is in excellent condition. The outside of the cup is black and decorated with a gold star and gold kanji around the base that reads "7th Infantry Machine Gun Unit" and the soldier's name, "Narita". The sides of the cup also have a waka (poem) in silver writing that reads "My life is lighter than a feather, my hard duty is complete, how glad I am to be going home today". The center of the base is marked in red kanji, "Kutani". The cup measures 1 7/8" across X 1 1/8" high. T are no chips, cracks or repairs on this Japanese WWII Kutani sake cup. The cup is in very good condition.The 7th Infantry Regiment was from Kanazawa and was activated on September 9th of Meiji 28 (1895) as part of the 9th Division. The 7th Infantry Regiment participated in both attacks on Shanghai, China (1932 and 1937).
