Japanese WWll Naval Officer Sword - Kai Gunto Mountings Tassel, Scabbard & RARE Leather Scabbard Cover This is a phenomenal sword brought back by a WWII vet from Wisconsin after the war. I am not an expert in Japanese blades as many who regularly sell blades are. Others who bought two other swords from me, from this collection, have been happy with their purchases. I removed the bamboo pin which fastens the blade to the handle but cannot get the blade out of the handle and am unwilling to force it so I do not know the blade origin which is quite frustrating. So the bamboo pin is missing, because upon removal, it was not in one piece. Otherwise this is a complete package. Uniquely the black lacquer scabbard is in great condition because until I just took it off for photos the leather scabbard cover was over the scabbard. This leather scabbard cover and the great tassel make this sword stand out. Sword Handle is ray skin under the wrap. Blade is very sharp. There is a small amount of discoloring and tarnishing on blade but not a lot. See photos for wavey texture to edge. Length of sword with handle is about 36 inches.
