This piece of North Carolina southern art pottery from J B Cole Pottery, Seagrove, NC, is a stunning deep red with black and brown accents Rebecca pitcher by Waymon Cole (1905-1987). It is forms W26 and W118 in the reproduction of the 1940 JB Cole Pottery Catalogue. This particular piece of pottery is all about the glaze. If you have seen this glaze "in person" you know how beautiful it is. The deep red has depth and an almost crystalline look in places. Look at the close up photos of the glaze for the best representations of it. It is a high gloss glaze that reflects the clouds, deck, photographer, and sky resulting in streaks of white and light that are not in the glaze. The same glaze on a different form can be found on page 123 of Lock's "The Traditional Potters of Seagrove, North Carolina" w it is described as "Unique red glaze formulated by J. B. Cole's." This pitcher is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, or repairs. It is 9 inches tall to the top of the handle. It is 4 1/2 inches wide at it's widest point. It is unmarked but bears the tripod marks characteristic of J B Cole pottery. It weighs between 3 and 4 pounds carefully packed for secure shipment by Priority Mail. Insurance is required. See payment instructions for specific details. Please email any questions.
