Jean Carlu AMERICAN - FRENCH WAR RELIEF Poster Maquette SIGNED original design / gouache on illustration board Magnificent original poster concept design maquette Executed circa 1940 by renowned French artist Jean Carlu. Measures about 11.125 x 7 inches (28.5 x 17.5 cm). From the collection of noted artist, writer and collector Simon Jeruchim of Pomona, New York. Mr. Jeruchim writes: "Some background about my ownership of these designs. I worked for Jean Carlu as a design assistant from 1950 to 1951. Subsequently Carlu left New York and returned to France, his native country. To thank me for my collaboration and as a parting present he gave me those designs in which, some of them, I had contributed to the development and an autographed book...."
