JEAN SCHWECKLER French, 20th Century View of Santa Clara Juan Fernandez, Chile. Signed and dated 1937 lower right. One of these islands was inhabited by the marooned 18th century sailor Alejandro Selkirk, on whom the novel Robinson Crusoe is based. Jean Schweckler is reputed to have been the first artist to have painted this island. Pastel and watercolor on paper, mat opening 10 x 14". Framed."Condition: Signature in white gouache is written over pencil signature. Slight mat burn. Slight staining at corners.
