Auction D escription: RARE, RARE, RARE !!!!!!!! CAST MARKED J.B.#1601 It is absolutely my pleasure, to offer this most difficult to find Jennings Brothers set of bookends to this online community. Made in the early to mid roaring 20's this wonderful set is not only one of the finest, but also one of the rarest and least seen sets and I have personally owned only once in 39 years. This particular set was cast in the slush mold process and to appreciate the complexity of type of production casting one should see the 1997 edition of Gerald McBrides, 'Collectors Guide to Cast Metal Bookends' which explains in detail the steps of casting objects using the hollow form process or slush molding. This pair depicts wonderfully designed canine Pointer Birddogs and named by Louis Kuritzky in his Collector's Encyclopedia of Bookends guide, 'On Point' . The artistic designers for Jennings captured the strength, hardiness, and passion to find and point its chosen game birds. With very close examination of these pieces you will find the original, bronze gilt finish to be nearly 100% intact with no breaks, cracks, separations, or missing parts except for one of their bottom felts is a replacement. The main casting is also in excellent condition, especially taking its age into account. Both are high quality, first rate pieces with deep brown/bronze patina, some light green verdigris, and they have aged appropriately for these wonderful masterfully made pieces of useful art. The only minute wear to mention along the most extreme edges and book-side w they have worn ever so slightly over time and doesn't detract from the appeal and essence of the pair. Aside from that, they are flawless. One would be hard pressed to find this pair much less in better condition. These impressive and highly detailed pieces measure nearly 5 1/2" Tall, 5" depth the pair, and 4" wide, and the pair weighs nearly 5 pounds. I doubt that these will be seen for some time, so now is your chance to acquire these old and desirable pieces. Please look at the actual photos below to see what is being offered. I take clear and precise pictures and do not computer enhance them with special effects, texture softening, or color alterations to make my items difficult to tell what is being auctioned. The pictures show nearly the exact colors of this set. These will be ideal for the Collector and Bookend Enthusiast whom is seeking the very finest and rarest of Jennings Brothers pieces. These bookends are listed and rated by the utmost authority's LOUIS KURITZKY-CHARLES De COSTA in their Collector's Encyclopedia of Bookends, as 5.* being the rarest of all and have only been seen once by the authors. Please feel free to email with questions, inquiries, or any additional information. I will professionally pack this item and will promptly ship via USPS. These have been priced at a Buy it Now Price or open bidding if you so choose, but don't let the set get away since I have priced them at a very fair price for Buy It Now Buyers. Please keep in mind these are one of the rarest of Jennings Brothers Manufacturing bookends and more than likely will not be seen again for some time and the Buy It Now method gives the first buyer the option to own the item with one bid. All personal checks, money orders, and cashiers checks will have to clear my bank before items are shipped. Cashiers checks will be verified through bank drawn on.
