Description This 3D mixed media artwork pays tribute to Jerry Garcia, singer, songwriter, guitarist, and front man for the band Grateful Dead. In it Garcia's contributions and accomplishments have been explored by the artist, Alan Derrick. ARTIST STATEMENT This artwork pays tribute to Jerry Garcia. One of its founders, Garcia performed with the Grateful Dead for their entire three-decade career. He was under treatment for drug addiction when he died of a heart attack in August 1995. TECHNIQUE This 3D pop artwork features layers of intricately cut steel mounted over a floating panel. The artist introduces visual depth to the piece by allowing each suspended layer to cast a shadow over the next. It is hand painted and signed by the artist to closely match the example pictured.
