Snapshots of the Past Postcards from the 1940's show a narrow slice of time in the countrys history. Having just emerged from the depression and embroiled in the war effort, resources and money were less available. The colorful cards of the 1930's gave way to a less visually stimulating replacement. Lower production costs meant lower priced merchandise so many of the cards produced in the 1940's were printed in gray-scale tones. This in turn set the stage for the high-quality colorful chrome card that would burst into popularity in the 1950's. The postcard view is now highly sought after by many institutions and individuals, as it serves as a historical record of the past.
