ITEM FOR AUCTION: The Collector's Trove has Jeux Descartes Dragonlords Ave Tenebrae 1986 Inscribed Froideval for auction! CONDITION: The item is in GOOD- condition as far as general wear (see NOTES ON CONDITION below). Upper lid is in GOOD- condition. It has several bumps and dings along the edges. Each of the corners has some fraying and splitting. Three of the corners are solid, but the upper right corner is completely split. Box bottom is in GOOD- condition, Slight dirtiness from rubbing against other product. Right side has been bumped/crushed-in in two places, leaving long creases to the box bottom. The booklet is in FINE- condition. Light staple rust. Map is in GOOD+ condition. Chits are in FINE- condition, but one set has several tiny spots and stains. The two game cards are in FINE- condition, but one has thumb-print smudging along one side, and a few other smudges of color from the other contents of the box. DESCRIPTION: This is Jeux Descartes Dragonlords Ave Tenebrae 1986 Inscribed Froideval. This set of rules is designed to play out pseudo-Medieval fantasy battles that take place in the land of Froideval. This is the second edition from 1986 and an expansion, Fiefs et Empires, came out in 1988. This game was given to Gary by Francois Marcela-Froideval. It is inscribed to Gary Gygax and autographed by Francois. Gary and Francois were friends and collaborators on a number of TSR projects, including Monster Manual II and Oriental Adventures, although the latter saw little of their work used. Francois worked for TSR from 1982 until about 1989 in various capacities but mainly translating TSR products into French. From the personal collection of Gary Gygax! The Collector's Trove has been authorized to auction this and thousands of other items from the collection of E. Gary Gygax. These items were acquired by Gary over 55 years of amateur and professional involvement in war games, strategy games, card games, board games, and role-playing games, over a decade of that time spent as President of TSR, a company he founded, the company that launched the role-playing game industry. They also come from his time as head of Dungeons & Dragons Entertainment Corporation as he worked toward a Dungeons & Dragons feature length movie and produced the highly successful Dungeons & Dragons Saturday morning cartoon series. Finally, a number of the items come from his tenure as a fantasy and sci-fi publisher through NIPI and Trigee and as author of the popular Gord the Rogue and Magister Setne Inhetep novels and short stories. Each numbered lot comes with its own unique Certificate of Authenticity with Gary’s widow, Gail Gygax’s imprimatur, an image of both her signature and Gary’s own signature stamp from 1983. Before Dungeons & Dragons, there were only six sorts of table-top games: pen and paper, board, card, dice, tile, and miniature games.
