In 1969 Hendrix was touring the US from Philadelphia to Texas , and Oakland to New York ; playing every other night. Midway into the tour, Hendrix and the Experience made their first appearance at the historic Madison Square Garden . With openers the Buddy Miles Express and Cat Mother & the All Night Newsboys (who were not advertised on the poster), they played to a sellout crowd of more than 19,000 fans. A recording of the show has made its way into the masses, but its washed out sound never lent it to an official release. Graphic artist David Byrd created the tour's poster art, with the venue and dates printed or pasted on after the poster was created. This poster, measuring 14" x 21 3/4" is on thick cardboard. Being on thick stock this poster has stayed in good condition, however, t are markings and pinholes. Three of the corners have pinholes, with the bottom left corner unscathed. T are pinholes at the top center of the poster which have turned into a rip (seen in images below). The top left corner has what looks like water stains, as well as a crease mark (although no physical crease is apparent). At the bottom of the poster a 1/8" discolored line stretches the entire border. Although this image was used for his 1969 US tour, the Madison Square Garden poster is one of the rarest with only a couple of copies known to exist. read more
