Offered for your consideration is a beautiful custom Damascus hunting knife. The information that was passed along with this knife is that it was made by John Ensler at a knife show demo on Damascus forging. I'm not familiar with this maker and the knife really looks a bit too refined to have been a demo production. The craftsmanship is outstanding and the attention to detail, along with the fit & finish are outstanding as well. Note how the tang was etched to the back of the bolsters to bring out the Damascus grain. This is a great touch that really adds to the refinement of the knife. The knife has never been used, carried, or sharpened and remains in near perfect condition with just light storage wear in the form of some faint hairlines on the bolsters. The Damascus blade was deeply etched and exhibits brilliant contrast. The blade was forged with a tapered tang and the taper work was beautifully done. The spine features a modest section of filework that's quite unique. It was done in a rope-like pattern similar to how popular maker Chris Peterson does his filework. While many knives exhibit filework that is nice, but rather useless, this filework was done for the sake of function and performance. The filework serves as the thumb rest for added leverage. The bolsters were sculpted from 416 stainless and feature a brushed satin finish. They are extra long and were beautifully executed with a very clean fit. The blade/bolster junctions are seamless and about as clean as you'll see. The handles are of presentation-grade Desert Ironwood and are absolutely gorgeous. The Ironwood was perfectly fitted and tightly secured with 4 stainless pins. The knife is very nicely balanced and had a natural, yet very sturdy feel. The handle is thin but wide and offers a firm grip and excellent control. The knife has a 4-1/4" blade and measures 9-1/8" in overall length. The leather does not appear to be the original. It's nicely made and shows just some light wear. If you appreciate fine, handmade knives of superior design and craftsmanship, this is an heirloom-quality custom that will be prized by its fortunate owner. A beautifully made Damascus hunter!!
