This is a rare Guest Badge to the May 18, 1963 Commence Address and Groundbreaking by President John F Kennedy at Vanderbilt University. On that day Vanderbilt Univeristy and Dudley Field hosted the 35th President to commemorate teh 90th anniversay of Vanderbilt University and to dedicate teh construction of the Percy Priest Dam. Include with the badge and ribbon is a copy of the commencement address delivered by President Kennedy, an article from the Vanderbilt online archives documenting the event and an article JFK + 50 which also documents the commencement address. The ground breaking of the Cordell Hull and J Percy Priest Projects of the U S Army Corps of Engineers was done remotely. At the end of his commencement address President Kennedy pushed a button on an electronic device that set off an explosion on the construction site of Percy Priest Dam several miles away. The blast of dynamite was heard over the stadiums sound system. Nice piece of Kennedy memorabilia and especially for any Vanderbilt University facality or administrators.
