In January, 2009, the historical inauguration of Democratic nominee Barack Obama as the first African American President of the United States will occur in Washington, D.C. Approximately 48 years ago, in January, 1961, another historical inauguration of a Democratic nominee as President of the United States occurred with the inauguration of John Fitzgerald Kennedy . We are selling an historic collection of sixty (60) (t are two copies of Image No. One although we numbered only the first one), 8" x 10" original photographs taken during and preceding President's Kennedy's inauguration. Some of these photographs were taken at a parade which occurred on January 1, 1961, and some were taken on the date of the inauguration, January 20, 1961. The date of each photograph is identified below. All of these photographs were taken by the Department of the Army and are described individually as follows: (1) The following Image No. 1 is a color photograph of President and Mrs. Kennedy in the Presidential limousine in a parade route. This photograph is one of the extremely rare occasions in which President Kennedy is photographed wearing "head-wear", as in he is seen wearing the traditional top-hat. This photograph appears to have been taken with the use of a "flash-bulb". This photograph has two slight creases as shown in the image below but neither of which adversely affects the image. On the reverse side of this photograph is stamped No. 28421 and the date Jan. 1, 1961. T is a second photograph of this exact same image but we believe it to have been taken with out the use of a "flash-bulb". On the reverse side of this second photograph is the "#17" in small penciled hand-writing. (2) The following Image No. 2 is a black and white photograph of the swearing in of Vice-President Lyndon Johnson by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sam Rayburn. Also pictured on the first row are First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, former President Dwight Eisenhower, President John Kennedy, and former Vice-President Richard Nixon. Other dignitaries are visible on the podium. T are two stamps on the reverse side of this photograph described more particularly in the next item. (3) The following Image No. 3 is of two stamps on the reverse side of Photograph No. (2) as described above (the image of Lyndon Johnson being sworn in). (4) The following Image No. 4 is a black and white photograph of President and Mrs. Kennedy arriving at the White House, getting out of the Presidential limousine, and being welcomed by former President Eisenhower. On the reverse of this photograph is stamped No. 17129 and the date January 20, 1961. (5) The following Image No. 5 is a black and white photograph of President Kennedy and President Eisenhower preparing to enter the Presidential limousine after departing from the White House. On the reverse of this photograph is stamped No. 17137 and the date January 20, 1961. (6) The following Image No. 6 is a black and white photograph of President Kennedy and President Eisenhower shaking hands upon President Kennedyâe(tm)s arrival at the White House. On the reverse of this photograph is stamped No. 17128 and the date January 20, 1961. (7) The following Image No. 7 is a black and white photograph of President and Mrs. Kennedy and President Eisenhower entering the White House. On the reverse of this photograph is stamped No. 17120 and the date January 20, 1961. (8) The following Image No. 8 is a black and white photograph of President Kennedy and President Eisenhower departing the White House. On the reverse of this photograph is stamped No. 17136 and the date January 20, 1961. (9) The following Image No. 9 is a black and white photograph of then former Vice-President Richard Nixon and then current Vice-President Lyndon Johnson departing the White House. It is of interest to note that both of these Vice-Presidents are destined to become President and this is an extremely rare photograph of the two leaders together. O...
