This is a 1963 JFK bust by Robert Berks. Robert Berks, 1922-2011, raised and educated in Boston, was an American sculptor, industrial designer and a planner. He created hundreds of bronze sculptures and monuments. One of Berks most famous works is this inaugural head of John F. Kennedy begun the night of Kennedy's assassination. The original 8 foot bust of JFK can be found in the Grand Foyer of the John F Kennedy Center for Preforming Arts in Washington DC and has been there since 1971. Jacqueline Kennedy stated that this is 'the only likeness that captures Jack's essence'. According to Berks, the bust of JFK was crafted with the play of light in mind, so that the president seems youthful and vigorous from one angle, older and exhausted from another. This is a very rare original of a very fine historical work of art executed by one of the most sought after American sculptures. It is signed on the nape of the neck and dated c 63. The bust has a green patina to mimic aged bronze. Please note in the photographs that the artist fingerprints are visible. The bust is approximately 10 inches high and sits on a wooden base that measures approximately 5" x 5" x 2" and has a felt pad on the bottom.
