John Lennon's ABC Lapel Press Pin From Howard Cosell From The Bruce Wendell Beatles Collection Direct from Mr. Wendell's office in the Capitol Records Tower on Hollywood and Vine we offer an official ABC Sports lapel pin that was given to the former Beatle from ABC-TV's top Sports personality Mr. Howard Cosell. No one ever raised the question as to "What the hell is a former Beatle doing at a football game?" At the time, it all appeared spontaneous, but the truth is, the interview was pre-arranged. One week prior to Lennon's appearance, Capitol Records Senior Vice President, Bruce Wendell, introduced Lennon to Howard Cosell in his New York office. at ABC-TV. Going for the bait, Cosell jumped at the opportunity to have John Lennon on air during a Monday Night Football Game. Before leaving the building, Cosell reached into his desk and handed John one of his lapel press pins and told him I'll see you Monday night in LA. During the ride back to John's apartment, John handed me the pin and said "you keep this, you're the sports fanatic, I have my own button on my jacket." Cosell treated Lennon and Wendell to the game, with V.I.P seating and, on cue, Lennon played it off with Cosell to perfection. Bruce being aware that John knew "squat" about football, so in route to the game, Wendell coached Lennon with a few buzz words to use.
