This scarce original trade card advertises the wire factory of John A. Roebling's Sons in Trenton NJ and New York City. John A. Roebling designed many suspension bridges and is best known as the engineer of the Brooklyn Bridge. The front of the card features a picture of the Niagara Suspension Bridge, started by John A. Roebling in 1851 and completed in 1854 at a cost of $400,000. Text on the front includes other statistics relating to the Niagara Bridge. Advertising text on the reverse of the card includes a list of prices for the company's galvanized telegraph wire and mentions their telephone wire and galvanized market wire. John A. Roebling died 1869 from tetanus caused by a construction accident on the Brooklyn Bridge. Roebling's son Washington Roebling and his daughter-in-law Emily Warren Roebling continued his work on the Brooklyn Bridge. His son Ferdinand expanded his wire rope business. His son Charles Roebling designed and invented an 80 ton wire rope machine . 3 1/8" x 5 3/8" - printed on card stock and in good condition.
