Although this may look like a real gun this item is classified as a "non-gun". It cannot fire any type of ammunition nor can it be modified to do so. This is a replica of an antique firearm, in this case a Colt 45 patented in 1871 (i.e., a firearm developed prior to 1898). According to federal law (US Code Title 15, Section 5001), replicas of antique firearms developed prior to 1898 do not require an orange barrel plug or markings. To satisy eBay and to remove any doubt this cap gun has been fitted with an orange plug as shown in the photos. Now on with the listing... At some point in the late 60âe(tm)s or early 70âe(tm)s Colt presented the Duke with a fabulous nickel plated engraved 45 Peacemaker. This gun had engraved detail and 24K gold plated hammer, handle strap and trigger guard. After the Dukes death his family consented to lone the gun to the Franklin Mint so an exact copy could be reproduced and offered to his fans as a limited edition commemorative. This commemorative, non-firing, nickel plated Colt 45 commemorative with 24K gold plated accents as described above, is absolutely awesome. It has the same serial number, feel, weight, assembly and operates exactly like the actual Colt it was meant to emulate, except it cannot be made to fire.
