service pieces from a long retired dinnerware pattern Old English JB-33 Covered Vegetable Bowls with Lids Set/2 from Johnson Brothers the bowls are beautiful, but the pattern is a bit of a mystery Welcome to Simpler Times Antiques! Here today for your consideration we're pleased to offer this lovely pair of covered vegetable service bowls with lids from Johnson Brothers. These bowls were made using the Old English blank that was a favorite for many years and can be found with countless Johnson Brothers patterns adorning it. This pattern, however is a bit of mystery. Our bowls are marked with the name of the style or blank, but not the pattern name. The only pattern identification we've been able to find is that used by Replacements Ltd., a popular china replacement firm, who designated this pattern as JB-33. That is their designation only and speaks nothing as to what Johnson Brothers may have actually called this pattern. Design elements here include rope edge blanks with creamy white glaze. Decor consists of yellow banding with roses and floral transfer decoration plus generous applied gold accents. It's a beautiful and elegant pattern that we believe probably dates from the 1940s or 50s. The Johnson Brothers mark on the bottoms of these bowls has been in use since about 1913. Our bowls have a rim diameter of about 9.25" read more
