Housekite offers up for bids a Low Side Cabinet designed by Bert England for Johnson Furniture Co. in Grand Rapids, MI., c.1959-1965. A very rare find indeed. This low side cabinet features a cream colored marble platform, two doors with brass pulls, most likely walnut. Scalloped door fronts, adjustable shelf, elegant styling, constructed in the "orientale" style. Excellent craftsmanship, great conditon. We have tried to show any flaws, such as minor scrapes and finish imperfections that exist due to its age and use. Doors swing smoothly and snap shut with magnet fasteners. All glides intact. Brass wraps around base of legs, seen many times in other Bert England designs, are all intact. This piece measures approximately 68"W x 25"H x 21"D around base. Each section (cabinet and marble platform) measures approximately 33"W x 19"D. History: Grand Rapids' Johnson Furniture Co. was the manufacturer of fine furnishings, employing such designers as Eliel Saarinen, Paul Frankl, Renzo Rutili, and Bert England, amoung others. Rutili was head of design at Johnson.
