Johnson's New Illustrated Family Atlas with Phyical Geography and Geographical statistical and historical data. Includes maps of every continent and country along with co-tidal lines, ocean currents, meteorology, principal plants, animal kingdom and productive industry maps. Included is a table for river and mountain of the world. A listing of all the US cities with Post Offices and city maps of larger cities. A 1860 cencus comparing +/- to the 1850 cencus which has a breakdown of White, Indian, Free Colored and Slave. It also lists the numbers of Deaf and Dumb, Blind, Insane and Idiotic. All maps are steel plate engraved and hand colored. Printed in 1863 by Johnson and Ward of New York City. Chronological history of the 'Great Rebellion' starts in September 1860 and runs through to January 1863, the time of publication. Included is a breakdown of the war debt. The front of the book has a steel engraving of indians overlooking a settlement. The first portion is maps and information on the United States. T is a military map showing forts and military posts and US ports. The back portion is devoted to the balance of the world's continents and countries. The last map is of the Roman Empire or Bible Map. The quality and information within is hard to imagine considering the technology and communication of the time. The book is 15 read more
